Registration on more than one part of the Register

If you work in more than one job, you could be eligible for registration on more than one part of the Register.

Registration on more than one part of the Register depends on the combination of parts involved. Providing you are eligible for registration the following combinations of concurrent registration are allowed:

  • social worker and any type of social service worker (apart from residential child care workers)
  • social work student and any type of social service worker
  • any type of social service worker and any other social service worker.

The following combinations of concurrent registration are not allowed:

  • social worker and social work student
  • social worker and residential child care manager, supervisor or worker.

Example one

Mike is a social work student who works part-time in residential child care. Mike should apply to register in both parts of the Register - the part for social work students and the part for residential child care workers.

Example two

Jane holds a Degree in Social Work and is also the manager of a residential child care service. Theoretically, she is eligible to apply for registration on two parts of the Register:

  • social workers (by right of her qualification)
  • residential child care managers (by right of her employment).

However, the ‘function-based’ part of the Register takes priority and Jane should register as a residential child care manager.
