High quality care services, provided by high calibre, skilled workers are a must, not an optional extra, as the demand for social services continues to grow.
As the workforce regulator and the Scottish partner in Skills for Care and Development, the Scottish Social Services Council is committed to driving up the quality of care that the people of Scotland receive from their social services. That cannot be done without sound workforce development and planning. Our Sector Skills Assessment provides the information to help us to do exactly that. It provides a picture of this growing sector, the facts and figures about how it shapes up so that we can understand the factors driving skills demands now and for the future.
The Sector Skills Assessment for the social services workforce in Scotland 2010/11 is available to download below. The SSSC will publish an updated Assessment in 2012.
Further information about the Sector Skills Assessment is available from Neil Macleod, Education and Workforce Development Adviser: Neil.Macleod@sssc.uk.com
The SSSC publishes a range of Labour Market information reports. These documents include:
- an annual report on the size and scope of the social services workforce in Scotland (data gathered by the SSSC and Care Inspectorate)
- Intelligence Bulletins which focus briefly on key workforce themes
- training provision data, including information on SVQ registrations and certifications.
These documents are available to download from the Workforce Solutions Portal’s Workforce Intelligence Library. The library also contains the Sector Skills Agreements developed by the SSSC in 2008.
