HOW DOES THE WORK OF THE SSSC MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO THE PEOPLE OF SCOTLAND?

The work of the Scottish Social Services Council can make a real difference to the people of Scotland.  Ensuring a safe and skilled social service worker with a high quality and well led social service workforce means that people who use social services and carers can feel confident about the care and support provided to them.

There is a no more important job than ensuring that the most vulnerable people in our society have the potential to live safe and fulfilling lives. This strategic plan describes the role we will play in this important and rewarding aim.  Moreover, it sets out what we consider success to look like and the difference our work will make to our stakeholders when we achieve the strategic objectives set out in this plan.

To ensure that the public and our stakeholders can find out about our work and the progress we are making in achieving our aims we are going to present the strategic plan on the website, which allow it to be more interactive.  We will also report, every quarter, on the progress we are making in achieving our targets. Our aspiration is that our work makes a difference to every person who use services and carers, to all social service workers, employers and our other stakeholders.

Throughout the three years that this strategic plan covers we will present current information on our progress.  We will share our vision with you and hope that you will contribute to and share your thoughts and views to inform our work.

We want people who use services and carers to feel confident in their social service workforce, for employers to have the right information and tools to help with their workforce planning and development, and for the SSSC to be a high performing organisation.

We must also be a listening organisation, it doesn’t matter how much we do, if we cannot show the difference it makes then we are not achieving the success we want.  To ensure that we are making that difference we will carry out research with different groups of our stakeholders.  We will meet with you face-to-face, hold town hall meetings, ask people to vote on our website, comment on Facebook and get in touch with me and Anna Fowlie, the Chief Executive.

Every comment we receive will be responded to and we will be clear in the action we have taken to respond.  We can only reach our full potential by ensuring that all our work is influenced and informed by people who have day-to-day experience of social services.
